Discipline: Therapy Horse

Country of origin: Northern Ireland

Date of Birth: 01/12/1974

Animal details:    Summer the therapy horse

If applicable: – Fallabella  miniature horse

Achievements/ Statistics to date:

Since Summer the Therapy horse has been trained, she has completed over 900 visits to hospitals, hospice’s and schools.

Below is a list of some of the places and people Summer has visited so far:

  • Children’s Hospice
  • All ten children’s wards in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children
  • Many Special Needs Schools
  • Ulster Hospital Mental Inpatient Unit
  • Lagan Valley Hospital
  • Dementia Unit
  • Life Limited Children

She helps to fundraise for the following organisations:

Summer’s training:

Summer has been de-sensitised in all areas and is completely house trained. She is also tube trained, meaning that she is sensitive around a child who is fed via a tube, ventilated, or has a nasal feeding tube. These Children are very high risk, so to have Summer permitted to be in close proximity to the children is wonderful. Summer is trained to tickle with her lips, neck and ears and to give kisses solely with the tips of her lips. She is also trained to take food off any part of the child or patient who may not be able to turn their limbs, with her teeth closed and use her lips only, this is also the command used.

Summer is able to walk up and down stairs, go in lifts and travel on public transport such as trains and buses. She has also been in hotels and Leisure centres, such as the Europa, Ramada and Encore hotels to name a few. Samantha recalls their visit to Belfast city hall as a very funny day.

Summer was nominated out of 15,000 nominations in the Lidl Community Hero Awards, she progressed to the final where there were 38 finalists. As winners they were presented the award on the SS nomadic and received an overnight stay in the Hilton. Summer was then nominated and won the Families First – Amazing Act of Kindness award, which was presented in the Ramada Hotel where summer attended a CHAMPANGE RECEPTION IN HER OWN BALL GOWN.

SUMMER has so many visit and partys over the next 4 months, including:

  • Coffee Morning at ACA Models
  • Premiere for My Little Pony
  • Christmas Party’s
  • Visits to and at home with life limited children
  • Regular visits to special needs classes/ schools in the greater Belfast areas (3 to 5 a week)
  • Lagan Valley Hospital
  • The Ulster Hospital (on alternate weeks)
  • Children will also visit Summer at home

Discipline: Show Jumping

Country of origin: Ireland

Date of Birth: 01.12.07

Animal details:

Registered Name – Divernagh’s Little Belle

Height – 128cm

Colour – Bay

Achievements/ Statistics to date:

Lee has been sponsored from us from May and throughout this time he has come from strength to strength. Being the youngest of our sponsors we are very proud of his achievements, he is currently competing throughout Ireland in the SJI Ulster Autumn Pony Tour, jumping 80cm and tackling his first 90cm courses. He is currently sitting 10th in the leader board in the 80cm and 17th in the 90cm he hopes to move up the leader board by the final in Portmore on the 12th November 2017.

Considering he only started jumping SJI this year on a very novice Pony with no jumping points, which has now over 70 points, he is definitely one to watch in the future.

He has had a very busy summer competing in Coilóg Equestrian Centre Kildare; where he picked up a substantial amount of points over the four days. Previously this year, he qualified for NI Festival 2017 at Killosory Stud and followed by a fantastic four days competing at Cavan during the NI Festival.

Future plans:

Lee’s future plans are to compete in Connell Hill, Mackenzie’s and to finish the Autumn Pony Tour. His dream is to jump at Dublin Horse Show so he will continue to work towards that goal.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to thank you for sponsoring the Arabian races at Wolverhampton on 7th May this year. We were lucky enough to win two of your races on the day, which went towards us retaining the 2017 Purebred Arabian Racehorse Championship.

Without our sponsors, our sport would not be what it is and we cannot express our gratitude to you enough.

I am making a big effort to encourage as many different people as possible to get involved in Arabian Racing and so I have set up a Racing Club for 2018. I have attached some information to this email if this is of any interest to you.

With many thanks and best wishes,

James Owen Racing
